We simply highlight the story outlined above and they soon go away. We've since had one or two other departments ask / demand that we enforce receipts on for everyone. They were taking the receipts as gospel, and at one point after it almost caused a few major incidents, we turned off the mandated GPO and sent out an Email advising all staff that they would need to decide for themselves how to manage read receipts, and that they should not be taken as proof that a message had been dealt with, so they should be used only at the individual's own choice and risk. They were basically assuming that if they got a read receipt, that the external psychologists (who were outside our organisation, both physically and in terms of Exchange) had read and dealt with it, which as you say, can be triggered by merely highlighting it in the preview pane, it certainly doesn't mean the message has been actioned. Most of this was real serious stuff, psychological and risk of harm reports on dangerous criminals and the like, all with the potential to go pear shaped very quickly. One section in particular, who really should have known better, were relying on read receipts to determine if external agencies had read and actioned their messages. We used to GPO them on but stopped doing so about 10 years ago because it was leading to constant problems. How do you manage read receipts? Is there a 3rd party tool or a better solution than this? Surely there must be a better way of handling read receipts, I have configured everyone's email to automatically send receipts, but this also sends a receipt if they view the email in the preview pane, without opening the attached procedure, which makes the read receipt a useless document. He states this is needed for ISO 9001, and as we work towards ISO 2016 this will become even more important.

He argues that he keeps both copies of the read receipts, one in his email and another on the server share, so if he isn't in someone else can check who has had the procedure and read it. He has a folder called read receipts where he creates a sub folder titles the procedure name and then moves all the delivery and read receipts into that also.

He then goes to the folder on the network where the procedure copy is stored and drags a copy of the delivery and read receipts into the folder. He sets a delivery and read receipt on the email and then sends the email to the end users. My quality procedures manager sends out new and updated work procedures via email. I am looking for some advise on how to manage read receipts in Outlook.
